Location: Float Trip & Fly Fishing on the Colorado River, Kremmling, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital Sponsored by Bob & Debbie Dye along with Blue Quill Angler, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins We arrived last Friday afternoon in Kremmling, CO. We stayed at the Muddy Creek Cabins. Bob Dye, his guides and drift boats met us at 1:00PM. Some of the group went to a near by pond and fished from the boat, and the rest of the group enjoyed the scenery at the cabins. Later in the afternoon we gathered at the picnic area for a barbeque treat consisting of elk burgers and some great side dishes. This was donated and prepared by Andy, owner of the Highland Tavern in Denver. After dinner, we gathered around the fire pit, roasted marshmelllows, and got to know one another. Saturday morning, we met up at the Moose Cafe for breakfast, and then back at the cabin to meet the guides and 5 drift boats at 9:00AM. The guides had all the fly rods rigged up and ready to go as most of our group is new to fly fishing. After some instruction and attempts at catching some trout, the group was excited to enjoy floating down the Colorado River. The flies hit the river as everyone anxiously awaits a strike. It was a great day for everyone and fish were caught by all. After the float, we went back to the cabins for a short rest, and then headed into town for dinner. Afterwards, we were treated to Kremmling Demolition Derby. It was a great trip, thanks to Bob and Debbie Dye, Blue Quill Anglers, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins. We are already looking forward to next year. Bob Adwar River Deep Alliance, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()

Location: Craig Hospital, Englewood, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital What could be more fun and soothing than a pack of puppies. The staff and patients all gathered at T-Rec (Therapeutic Recreation Department at Craig Hospital), to play with the German Shorthair Pointer pups. Some of the pups sat in the laps of patients. It's hard to tell who is more relaxed, the pups or the people. Some of the older pups are in full whacko mode and won't stop playing until exhaustion sets in. Either way, everyone is smiling. This is the second puppy day at Craig Hospital thanks to Stephanie MacLennan of Vahalla Hunt Club, we plan on doing many more. Location: U.S. Air Force Academy Equestrian Center, Remount Foundation, Colorado Springs, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson WTB Last Tuesday, the River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP arranged an amazing outing at the U.S. Air Force Academy Equestrian Center, Remount Foundation, in Colorado Springs, CO. It was so much fun. We had 10 veterans attend, and had the opportunity to learn more about the equine assisted learning. We learned how beneficial working with horses can be to those with PTSD and TBI's. After spending some time grooming the horses and learning about equine assisted learning, our instructor Jeanne Springer, took us for a nice, long trail ride around the Air Force Academy grounds. Location: Lincoln Hills Fly Fishing Club, Black Hawk, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital,Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson Warrior Transition Battalion Anglers of Honor at Lincoln Hills The creek is clear, the temperature cool with some clouds, and the pond is full of trout. We gathered at the eco-center deck for coffee and a light breakfast. Next, we broke up into three groups with some receiving basic fly fishing, instruction. We headed to the creek and the ponds with our guides. Everyone manages to put a trout or two in the net, and just as important, many are learning a new sport and having a great time. After a morning of fishing, we all gathered on the deck for lunch and fish stories. It's been a great day of fishing, learning, and making new friends. A big thanks to all guides, volunteers, staff and everyone who made this a great outing. Bob Adwar River Deep Alliance, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()

Location: Craig Hospital, Englewood, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital Puppy Therapy at Craig Hospital was an amazing example of how animals help us heal, stay calm, and bring unending joy. 14 puppies were invited to the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Craig Hospital. Patients, families, and staff spent hours loving and playing with German Shorthair puppies of various ages. There seemed to be a shared understanding of gentleness and compassion on both parts. With a full room of participants there was rarely a puppy that was not in someone’s arms. Lori and the staff at Craig Hospital make sure that everyone got a chance to have some puppy love. Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom This past Monday was an amazing night at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts in the Acrylic Pouring Art Class. Our Instructor, Al B Johnson, taught our class his secret recipe for having dazzling effects when working with acrylic pour painting. Each student had the opportunity to create at least two masterpieces to take home, by the end of the class. Everyone had a great time working on their new techniques and hanging out with fellow veterans. Mr. Johnson gifted pieces of his art to some our participants. Thank you to the Cottonwood Center for the Arts, River Deep Foundation, and the volunteers who all made this happen. Location: Eleven Mile State Park, Lake George, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson Warrior Transition Battalion We had one hundred Veterans, family members, and volunteers gathered at Eleven Mile State Park, with nearly 40 campsites overlooking the lake. We had the Kast King pro staff and their bass boats ready to take people on the lake in search of trout. Kast King is also the group that supplies us with the Anglers of Honor fly rods and River Deep spinning rods. They always go the extra distance to help us. We also had a pontoon boat skippered by Mark Yevoli, who took groups out on the lake for sight seeting and fishing. Chris Dundas did the same with a skiff. The afternoon was spent setting up campsites, getting acquainted, some game playing for the kids, and enjoying the lake and mountains. Later on in the day everyone gathered at the main campsite for some fantastic barbecue from Roosters Competition BBQ. After dinner we gathered around the campfire for storytelling, fish stories, and marshmallow roasting. It was a great day and we had another fun day planned Sunday, so it was time for everyone to return to their campsites for a good night of sleep. We woke up with the sun on Sunday morning and had a short drive to the meadow where the Ballooning Society of Pikes Peak had breakfast waiting for us, along with fifteen balloons that took everyone for a ride. It's quite a sight to see the balloons launch, all different sizes, colors, and shapes. You can tell by the smiles after everyone's flight, what an awesome time we all had, not to mention the incredible views of South Park. With everyone back on the ground, the pilots had another treat planned. It's the 'first-time-in-a-balloon' ritual that involves drinking champagne (or water), out of a cup without using your hands. We were treated to a brief talk on the history of hot air balloons. After that we were treated to barbecue by the Ballooning Society of Pikes Peak, who presented hand made quilts to all of the Veterans. They have been hosting the Celebration of Honor flight for years, and we can't thank them enough for the fantastic job they do honoring our Veterans. It's been a fantastic weekend, and a big thanks to the many volunteers, organizations and people that made this weekend possible. Location: Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital & Operation TBI Freedom The sun is shining, the mountains are green and the creek is clear. We had a large group on Saturday, anxious to try their luck on the creek and pond. We had expert guides from the Anglers of Honor program. Most of the group were new to fly fishing and received instruction on casting, gear, and knots from the guides. We put the waders on and headed to the creek and pond with our guides. Family members and children were also on the pond trying their luck. We managed to put a few in the net, but more importantly everyone learned about fly fishing and had a great time. At lunchtime, we gathered on the eco-center deck that overlooks the pond. One of our favorites, Jim N' Nick's BBQ, delivered a delicous meal for all to enjoy. It's been a wonderful, beautiful day. A huge thanks to all the guides, volunteers and everyone who helped make it a success. Bob Adwar River Deep Alliance, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()

Location: Camp BullWheel, Ennis, MT. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson WTB We had soliders and Veterans from Ft. Carson and Operation TBI who floated on the Madison River, which is challenging this time of the year because of the run-off. Fortunately, Peter Pauwels and the Camp BullWheel guides know the river and where the fish are. We were on the river for three days in search of trout. The rest of the time we were treated to good food and conversation at Camp BullWheel. The Montana trip was amazing! The people at Camp BullWheel had the best hospitality around. The town itself was a small county town, it was friendly and easy to navigate. Our favorite place to get souvenirs and drinks was Willie's Distillery. This was also a Veteran-ran business which made our guys feel right at home. Our trip was full of good times and great stories, with new life-long friends made. A big thanks to all the great people and guides at Camp BullWheel. Justin Hudson River Deep Alliance Bob Adwar River Deep Alliance, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()
