Vahalla Hunt Club with Craig Hospital, Bennett, CO. 12/22/18

It's cold, overcast and a chance of snow, so we are going to layer up to stay warm. The Craig Hospital participants show up around 10:00AM and we started with some instruction on the trap shooting range. Everyone is getting the hang of it and more clays are being broken. The tune up is over and the dogs are ready to go. So we head to the grass in search of pheasants.

We manage to flush some up, put a few in the bag and some pheasants escaped to another zip code. It's a fun hunt and everyone is enjoying watching the dogs work and the birds fly. It's lunch time and we head to the clubhouse for a Vahalla lunch and some warmth. It has been a great day and a big thanks to the Valhalla Hunt Club and all the volunteers.

Basic Drawing Art Class at Art Students League of Denver, Denver, CO. 12/10/18

12/26/2018

Today's class is basic drawing. Our instructor will be teaching us how to draw with pencils, graphite, and charcoal. Sandra, our instructor, gives us an overview of the basic concepts of drawing; including the thought process and how to hold and use the instruments for drawing. Some of the students have prior experience and some are just naturals. Either way, everyone is having a great time and will be taking their masterpieces home with them.

When the class was finished we enjoyed some delicious barbecue from Jim N' Nicks BBQ. It's been a great class and we all look forward to the next one. A big thanks to the Art Students League of Denver, their staff and all the volunteers who made this a great outing. Special thanks to Taskforce ISO for the photos.

The weather is warm and the grass tall. Allen Strong, our host, has been guiding us on deer, duck, dove and pheasant hunts for years. We have six Vets looking forward to putting some birds in the bag.

We will be hunting Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Friday night we were treated to some great barbecue from Happy Jacks BBQ. Everyone has had a great time and managed to bring home some pheasant for dinner. A big thanks to Allen, Rudy, and the volunteers who made this a great weekend.

Archery Outing with Craig Hospital and Operation TBI Freedom at RMS Gear,  Wheat Ridge, CO. 12/9/18

12/12/2018

We have a full house today of men, women and children all anxious to learn archery from the expert instructors from RMS Gear. We start with the range rules and fundamentals. Next, we move up to the line with the instructors and are given the choice of shooting a recurve or compound bow, and figure out the appropriate draw weight.

Arrows fly toward the targets and the smiles are right behind. We also have engineering students from the School of Mines who are designing new adaptive equipment for archery, fishing and shooting. The student will be working with us all year and will be attending many of our outings. We are all looking forward to seeing the end results. Quality of Life Plus is the organization that made this possible.

It's lunch time and we are treated to some great barbecue from Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q.
It has been a wonderful day for all and a big thanks to all who helped make it possible.

Christmas Party for Operation TBI Freedom and Ft. Carson WTB, Bass Pro Shop, Colorado Springs, CO. 12/7/18

We have bowling, lunch, and best of all, we have Santa who handed out gifts to all of the children. There are almost 100 children and just as many vets and family members. It's a fun day for all to enjoy the activities and celebrate the holidays. Task Force ISO is helping out with pictures of the day. Everyone is having a great time bowling and spending time with Santa and opening their gifts. It is lunch time and Bass Pro Shop and Uncle Bucks provided a great lunch along with donated cake pops from Ticklebelly for desert. Ticklebelly has donated cake pops for all of our outings.

It's been a great day for all and a big thanks to everyone who helped put it together.

Equine Assisted Therapy, Stable Strides Colorado Springs, CO. 9/14/18 - 11/30/18

12/3/2018

We just wrapped up an eight-week program of equine assisted therapy, or EAT, providing veterans a chance to try a new type of therapy. A therapy that brings your growing relationship with the horse to the forefront. Often, clients in EAT don't talk directly about problems, issues or fears, rather build a relationship with the horses to build social coping and relationship skills that can be generalized to their everyday relationships and struggles. The open group will focus on helping veterans learn and practice coping skills for symptoms of anxiety, PTSD and depression.
