Hosted by: SCI HOP and River Deep Location: Valhalla Hunt Club, Bennett, CO Participants from: Craig Hospital Trap shooting, pheasant hunting and lunch. It’s a windy, warm day east of Denver in farm country. The participants attending the outing are from all over the country—men and women who all have a hunting background and are excited for a tune up at the trap range. Everyone—patients, staff and family members— get a chance at blasting some clays. After a couple of hours of confidence building, we head down to the clubhouse for lunch and some discussion of the pheasant hunt after lunch. The dogs and guides are ready to go, so we head up to the tall grass. The winds are getting gusty at 20-30 knots which makes it difficult for the dogs to scent and the birds will fly light jets. We head out with the dogs in front and they get some birds up but it’s tough to get a good shot, we manage to put a few in the bag. Everyone is having a great time just thankful to see some birds fly and the dogs work. A big thanks to the staff at Valhalla Hunt Club. Bob Adwar SCI, VP/Humanitarian Chairman River Deep, President

Hosted by: SCI HOP and River Deep Location: El Capitan Ranch, New Mexico Participants from: Wounded Veterans from Operation TBI and Fort Carson WTB Cow Elk Hunt Thanks to a generous donation from El Capitan Ranch in New Mexico we are able to send six veterans on a cow elk hunt. They are staying at the the ranch’s bunk house. All the meals, guiding, field dressing and quartering are done through Tony Dickenson, his family and Randy, the Ranch Manager. The vets also help with all the chores. The weather is perfect, the ranch beautiful and the elk are plentiful. Everyone arrives Friday and the hunt takes place Saturday and Sunday. Six Vets hunt and six elk end up in the freezer! What a weekend! Everyone is having a great time and the camaraderie between the vets is great and helps the healing process from the wounds of war. This has been a wonderful outing and hunt. A big thanks to El Capitan Ranch and their staff for hosting and helping. Bob Adwar SCI, VP/Humanitarian Chairman River Deep, President October 7, 2017
Location: Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk , CO Hosted by: Anglers of Honor, SCI HOP and River Deep Alliance Participants: Operation TBI Freedom, Craig Hospital, Ft Carson WTB Fly fishing instruction, fly fishing and lunch It's the last fishing outing of the year for the Anglers of Honor program at Lincoln Hills. We are lucky to have a sunny day and warm temperatures that are perfect for fishing the river and ponds. The snow will be here in a few days so our timing is spot on. We have a big group of Craig Hospital patient, Veterans from Operation TBI Freedom and active duty soldiers from Fort Carson’s Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB), about 40 participants in all. We start with fly fishing instruction from the expert Anglers of Honor program guides. It’s then time to put our waders on, grab gear and pair up with the guides. Some will be fishing the river and others the ponds. The hook ups begin and the trout are long and fat so it requires delicate retrieves or the fish will break off. We still do manage to pull some monsters into the nets. It’s almost 1 o’clock so we all gather at the clubhouse deck for some Italian food and “fish talk”. As always, there are smiles all around…what a fantastic day. We have a brief talk about the programs we provide all year ‘round. Cpt. Napolitano delivers some moving words about this America and why we fight. A big thanks to all the organizations, guides, volunteers and everyone who makes these outings possible.
