Location: Specialty Appliance, Greenwood Village, CO.
Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP
Participants: Operation TBI, Ft. Carson WTB

Hosted by Speciality Appliance in Greenwood Village, CO.
Over the weekend, the River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP hosted a Wild Game Cooking class at Specialty Appliance in Greenwood Village, CO. Chef Leslie taught us some great recepies for trout, deer, chukar and ceviche. The bonus was that we got to sample all of the dishes. We had the treat of preparing all these dishes in the Speciality Appliance showroom in Greenwood Village, CO, which was amazing because we were using the best appliances available.

Everyone in the class was treated to a copy of Chef Leslie Fangman's Wild Game cookbook. It was a fun day of learning and eating. A big thanks to Chef Leslie and Lori of Speciality Appliance

August 16-19th, 2019

Location: Float Trip & Fly Fishing on the Colorado River, Kremmling, CO.
Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP
Participants: Craig Hospital

Sponsored by Bob & Debbie Dye along with Blue Quill Angler, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins

We arrived last Friday afternoon in Kremmling, CO. We stayed at the Muddy Creek Cabins. Bob Dye, his guides and drift boats met us at 1:00PM. Some of the group went to a near by pond and fished from the boat, and the rest of the group enjoyed the scenery at the cabins.

Later in the afternoon we gathered at the picnic area for a barbeque treat consisting of elk burgers and some great side dishes. This was donated and prepared by Andy, owner of the Highland Tavern in Denver. After dinner, we gathered around the fire pit, roasted marshmelllows, and got to know one another. Saturday morning, we met up at the Moose Cafe for breakfast, and then back at the cabin to meet the guides and 5 drift boats at 9:00AM. The guides had all the fly rods rigged up and ready to go as most of our group is new to fly fishing. After some instruction and attempts at catching some trout, the group was excited to enjoy floating down the Colorado River.

The flies hit the river as everyone anxiously awaits a strike. It was a great day for everyone and fish were caught by all. After the float, we went back to the cabins for a short rest, and then headed into town for dinner. Afterwards, we were treated to Kremmling Demolition Derby. It was a great trip, thanks to Bob and Debbie Dye, Blue Quill Anglers, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins.

We are already looking forward to next year.

Puppy Day at Craig Hospital

Location: Craig Hospital, Englewood, CO.
Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP
Participants:
Craig Hospital

What could be more fun and soothing than a pack of puppies. The staff and patients all gathered at T-Rec (Therapeutic Recreation Department at Craig Hospital), to play with the German Shorthair Pointer pups. Some of the pups sat in the laps of patients. It's hard to tell who is more relaxed, the pups or the people.

Some of the older pups are in full whacko mode and won't stop playing until exhaustion sets in. Either way, everyone is smiling. This is the second puppy day at Craig Hospital thanks to Stephanie MacLennan of Vahalla Hunt Club, we plan on doing many more.

Location: U.S. Air Force Academy Equestrian Center, Remount Foundation, Colorado Springs, CO.
Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP
Participants: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson WTB

Last Tuesday, the River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP arranged an amazing outing at the U.S. Air Force Academy Equestrian Center, Remount Foundation, in Colorado Springs, CO. It was so much fun. We had 10 veterans attend, and had the opportunity to learn more about the equine assisted learning. We learned how beneficial working with horses can be to those with PTSD and TBI's.

After spending some time grooming the horses and learning about equine assisted learning, our instructor Jeanne Springer, took us for a nice, long trail ride around the Air Force Academy grounds.

Anglers of Honor at Lincoln Hills
The creek is clear, the temperature cool with some clouds, and the pond is full of trout. We gathered at the eco-center deck for coffee and a light breakfast. Next, we broke up into three groups with some receiving basic fly fishing, instruction. We headed to the creek and the ponds with our guides. Everyone manages to put a trout or two in the net, and just as important, many are learning a new sport and having a great time.
After a morning of fishing, we all gathered on the deck for lunch and fish stories. It's been a great day of fishing, learning, and making new friends. A big thanks to all guides, volunteers, staff and everyone who made this a great outing.

Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP

Puppy Therapy at Craig Hospital was an amazing example of how animals help us heal, stay calm, and bring unending joy. 14 puppies were invited to the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Craig Hospital. Patients, families, and staff spent hours loving and playing with German Shorthair puppies of various ages.

There seemed to be a shared understanding of gentleness and compassion on both parts. With a full room of participants there was rarely a puppy that was not in someone’s arms. Lori and the staff at Craig Hospital make sure that everyone got a chance to have some puppy love.

Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP

This past Monday was an amazing night at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts in the Acrylic Pouring Art Class. Our Instructor, Al B Johnson, taught our class his secret recipe for having dazzling effects when working with acrylic pour painting. Each student had the opportunity to create at least two masterpieces to take home, by the end of the class.

Everyone had a great time working on their new techniques and hanging out with fellow veterans. Mr. Johnson gifted pieces of his art to some our participants. Thank you to the Cottonwood Center for the Arts, River Deep Foundation, and the volunteers who all made this happen.
