Family Fishing & Fun Day - May 25, 2019

5/27/2019

Location: Colorado Youth Outdoors - Windsor, Colorado
Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP
Participants:
Craig Hospital & Operation TBI Freedom and Ft. Carson WTB

It's a warm, sunny spring day and the perfect temperature to be outdoors for fishing and archery. Both the kids and adults are anxious to head for the ponds and range. Arrows fly while bass and bluegill are reeled in at the ponds. What a fun bunch of guides and instructors to help out. Wonderful to provide these families with a much needed day together of fun and relaxation. At lunchtime, we all gather at the outdoor pavilion for some delicious BBQ provided by Jim & Nicks BBQ Restaurant. They always provide a wonderful meal for everyone to enjoy. After lunch, we hand out some door prizes...fishing rods, hats, footballs and more. There is plenty of time for more archery and fishing. It's been another successful Family Fun Day and we look forward to the next one. Big thanks for all the volunteers and to Colorado Youth Outdoors for the beautiful setting.

Fly Fishing with Anglers of Honor, Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO., 5/12/19

This is the first fishing outing of the season. The weather is perfect with the sun shining on the river and ponds. We have a large group of Anglers, most have never fly fished before and they are all excited to learn.

Before we hit the water, we start with some fundamentals; casting, knots, and gear. Now its time to suit up and get paired with the guides of Anglers of Honor. Some will be in the river and others on the pond.

Everyone is having a great time learning about fly fishing and catching fish at the same time. Its getting close to lunchtime and we will be enjoying some delicious bar-b-que from our friends at Jim N' Nicks. Its been a great day and thanks to all the guides, volunteers, and everyone who made today possible.

Oil Painting Art Class, The Cottonwood Arts Center, Colorado Springs, CO., 5/6/19

Today, our instructor Jess Preble, introduced our participants to the basics of oil painting. She taught the importance of value scales in application, learning what dynamic lighting and composition are, as well as the importance of negative space and atmospheric tone to create form.

In this class everyone had the opportunity to apply those skills and create a final masterpiece. After class, everyone had time to interact with other participants and enjoyed refreshments and pizza.

Fencing Classes with the Pros
This is our second Fencing outing as the first one was a great success. We learned the basics and we matched up against other people in our group. Today's class has both returning and new participants. The returning group will learn new techniques and the first timer's will start with the basics.

A huge thank you to our hosts and instructors, Nathan & Maggie. We all had a great time and look forward to the next class.
