Kersey Turkey Hunt This property in Kersey Colorado is a gem! There is an abundance of wildlife, with the beautiful Platte River running through the property. What a great way to open the spring turkey season. One veteran was able to harvest his bird on the opening day, with snow still on the ground. A very nice Tom, his biggest bird ever. Much of the rest of the day was spent calling and scouting the birds for our second day hunt. Our second day started with crossing the river through thick bank of fog, so thick we couldn’t see the sand bar in the middle of the river. As we waited for First light, the woods came alive with turkeys calling to each other through the thick fog. As the fog rolled rack, we could finally make out 2 jakes working their way towards our decoys. This was the first turkey hunt for two of our vets, and both brought home their birds. An incredible time was had by all! A big thank you to our host Sean Mulligan, our guides Colin Mulligan and Conner Flansburg. We've added an amazing new outing to our programing, fencing, thanks to Denver Fencing Center, the premier fencing school in Colorado. Soldiers, Vets, Craig Hospital participants, men, women and children are all excited to be here. Nathan, Maggie, and Chris will be our instructors. We start with the basics as we are all beginners, so there is a lot of learn. It's not like the old pirate movies. We are ready to suit up, grab a weapon and become a human pin cushion...just kidding you don't feel a thing. We paired up and the Fencing begins. Everyone is having a great time. Whether casual or competitive, the staff will accommodate. A big thanks to the Denver Fencing Center, the participants, and all the volunteers. Today we have a variety of classes to enjoy such as mono-prints, hat making, felt pins and a collaborative tree mural. Everyone has an opportunity to experience all the categories! It's a fun day for both adults & kids, and there is a bonus; we get to go home with finished work. At lunch time, we are treated to a variety of delicious B.B.Q. from Jim N' Nicks. It's been a wonderful day and a big thanks to the Art Students League of Denver and their instructors, along with everyone else who made this possible.
