The River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP have rung in the new year at full speed with more than six events in the month of January alone! Russel Maclennan has successfully guided three antelope hunting events so far this month with more scheduled to close out 2018-2019 game season. Hunters from Operation TBI Freedom and Fort Carson were given the opportunity to harvest late season antelope on farms throughout the eastern I-70 corridor spanning from as far south as Ellicott and throughout the Strasburg and Limon areas. Local farmers welcomed veterans and service members to utilize late season tags. In typical hunting fashion, the antelope and weather were not always ideal, however under the supervison of seasoned professional guides our veterans were able to fill tags and have a blast doing so. Service members from the Army, Marines, and Airforce were successful. In a rare turn of events, one army Lieutenant took two antelope with only one round, redeeming himself from an earlier miss! Soldiers are looking forward to finishing out the month with the final hunt taking place on the 28th of January. The month of January has proven to be a very busy month for SCI HOP, River Deep, Operation TBI Freedom, and Soldiers from the Warrior Transition Battalion of Fort Carson Colorado. Two events have been held in Holyoke, Colorado, courtesy of the generous host Allen Strong along with the support of the local community. Veterans and Soldiers have had multiple hunting opportunities for upland and water fowl. Service Members were successful in harvesting not only pheasants, ducks, and geese, but also coyotes! The days started early and culminated with an amazing dinner provided by Happy Jacks Barbeque. Everyone involved forged new relationships and bonds that will last beyond the two-day events. The success of the hunts was surpassed by the friendships made and opportunities for future support. Now more than ever, networking for veterans and mentors is increasingly reaching more and more service members in need through the selflessness of communities, hosts, donors and willingness of those who want to give back to our nations Service Members. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making events like this possible, especially Allen, Rudy and Allen from Happy Jacks, as well as to those who participated to make these weekends so memorable SSG Scott Huvaert Fort Carson Warrior Transition Battalion Bob Adwar River Deep, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman click on the pdf below to read the outing report ![]()
Today's class was on how to make artists books, which is a model for creating journals and drawing notebooks. We learn how to make a book out of a piece of paper. Next comes the process of coloring, sketching, or painting of the book which involves paper, scissors, paint brushes, crayons, markers, pencils and other instruments and color. There is no right or wrong, just fun creating a journal. We have a delicious barbecue dinner coming from Jim N' Nicks. It's been a fun and educational class, a big thanks to all who made it possible. Basic Drawing Art Class with Operation TBI Freedom We had an amazing time at the Cottonwood Center for Arts in Colorado Springs. Our instructor LeAnna did a great job teaching our clients the basis of drawing. They learned how to draw with pencil; worked on different was of shading and highlighting; how to shape and scale what they want to draw. Everybody was amazed at how easy it was for them to draw. We had few “Picassos” in our class. We had a very relaxing time. Our instructor provided participants with drawing pads and pencils so they could continue to practice the skills they learned in class. It's been a great class and a big thanks to the Cottonwood Center for The Arts staff and all the volunteers who made this a wonderful day Jesus Guerra Military Support Specialist, Operation TBI Freedom Bob Adwar River Deep, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman Click on the pdf below to read the outing report ![]()
